‼️ Syrian textbooks changed the narrative against the Ottoman Caliphate.
The new Syrian government has brought changes to the description of the history of the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Caliphate.
In the new school textbooks for the 2025–26 academic year, the language used to present the Arab Revolt of 1916–1918 has been changed.
In this edition published during the new government of Al-Shar, the name "Great Arab Revolt" has been removed and the anti-Turkish language used against Ottoman rule has been softened.
In the 2017–18 textbooks during the Bashar al-Assad government, the goal of the revolt led by Sharif Hussein was stated as "liberating Arab lands from Ottoman occupation and the rule of Unionist Turks." But in the new books, the event is referred to as "Hussein bin Ali's revolt movement" and it is said that its purpose was "to separate Arab lands from the Ottoman state."
Besides this, while the old textbooks mentioned liberating the people from the "injustice" of the Turks, the new edition says the goal of the revolt was "to remove the Ottomans from the region."
That is, the new government has used much more restrained language than before in describing the revolt against the Ottoman Caliphate.
