📌 Phishing attacks by Chinese hackers to get US AI policy information.

➡️ Chinese hackers have launched phishing attacks targeting individuals working on artificial intelligence policy, regulation, and technology export restrictions in the United States.
To this end, they have used the identities of US AI experts and former government officials, according to cybersecurity firm Proofpoint.

➡️ As a tactic, hackers would send e-mails proposing to work together under false identities. A link was attached to that email. Clicking the link would take the user to a fake website, which was essentially created to steal their confidential passwords. Fewer than 10 individuals were targeted in this entire operation.

➡️ Proofpoint believes that stealing technical information alone was not the main goal of this attack. Rather, the hackers' main objective was to gather intelligence regarding how the US is formulating its AI policies and what kind of controls or restrictions it is going to impose on this technology.
